Not for the squeamish

I spotted this outside my front door earlier this afternoon, so nipped out to take a photo close up. (Click on it to get a closer look)

Guessed what it is?

I'll give you a clue...each little "blob" is a millimetre across, maybe less.

No?

Well, maybe this shot that I took after I blew on them gently will help...

I hadn't spotted an egg sack anywhere around the door, but I'm guessing these spiderlings must be newly hatched out, because I spotted them straight away when A and I came back from town. They are so distinctive as well, but I don't know that I've ever seen a yellow and black spider like this.

Aren't they beautiful?

What a fantastic sight. I remember finding a spiders egg sack when I was young and tried to check it each morning to see if they had hatched. Then one day it was gone.... and I'd missed it all!

No, they're still all there - I feel quite the little mother, checking them intermittently. The husband thinks I'm mad, of course!
